Ha! I've allllmost matched Pizza Hut's bread sticks.
3 cups of bread flour
1 cup + 1 tablespoon of warm water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (can also use melted butter)
3 teaspoons of yeast
1 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of sugar
Mix by hand, or use a bread machine to mix the dough (much easier). Add a bit of extra water or flour as needed.
Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil, and spray the foil with Pam or other non-stick spray. Press the dough onto the pan in a rectangular shape, about 1/2" thick. It doesn't have to be perfectly rectangular.
Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into 1" (or a little wider) strips. Don't separate them. Just leave them as is.
Sprinkle garlic powder on the dough, giving each bread stick a good coating. Then sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
Melt about 1/4 cup of butter, and stir in about 1 tablespoon of garlic powder. Use a spoon to drizzle butter over the bread sticks. Not exactly healthy, huh.
Bake at 350 degrees until nice and brown, about 15 minutes or so. Turn the pan around if needed to brown them evenly.
My first attempt needed a bit more garlic powder, so next time I'll really "put it to it".
Serve with spaghetti and/or marinara sauce.
